The Boston Celtics have been toe to toe all season with the Cleveland Cavaliers fighting for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. It seems that the Celtics were the ideal number two seed, but with eight games left in the season, the struggling Cavaliers have given up the number one seed to the Celtics, who are seemingly performing way better this season that anyone has expected.
The 47-26 Cavaliers have been struggling mightily down the stretch since they lost Kevin Love to injury. Go back a month and many people thought that the addition of Andrew Bogut and Deron Williams could help the Cavs over the hump and gain a more comfortable lead in the East, but that is not true. With the combination of losing Andrew Bogut to injury in the first minute he puts on a Cavaliers uniform as well the injury to Kevin Love, the Cavaliers are 5-5 in the last 10 games and have lost two in a row.
On the flip side, the Celtics, with no acquisitions during the all-star break, have been making a huge run since the return of Avery Bradley. The 48-26 Celtics have already matched their 2015-2016 win total of 48 and still have eight games to go. While the Celtics are 8-2 in the last 10 games and are playing most of their remaining games at home where they have continuously shined, they are still not content at all.
With two straight first round exits from the playoffs, the Celtics are preparing for a better performance in the playoffs this time around. Point guard Isaiah Thomas keeps preaching the point of never becoming content with where you are. A Celtics team that is made up of both veterans and younger guys have shown a high amount of resiliently this season and hope they can continue that into the playoffs and make a deep run.
The reigning NBA champion Cavaliers have some work left to do this season to prepare for the playoffs if they hope to make it back to the NBA finals once again. A team that has become more and more delicate as the season progresses hopes they can remain optimistic about having Kevin Love back for the playoffs and having the will to fight through the playoffs.
